Keeping your pet up to date on vaccinations is one of the easiest ways to make sure they stay healthy and live their optimal lifetime.
Rabies is required by law and it not only protects your pet but also protects you. There is no treatment for your pet if they at exposed to and develop rabies. In fact they only way to diagnosis the disease is to sacrifice your pet and have his brain examined.
Canine Distemper is really a misnomer. This vaccination is a combination of distemper, adenovirus, par influenza, Leptospirosis, and parvovirus. So you are protecting against 5 very important diseases. This vaccine needs to be given yearly until the animal is 5 years old and then can be given every 3 years except that the Leptospirosis portion needs to still be given yearly. Leptospirosis is spread through the urine of many of the rodents we have common in our area. Your dog licks and smells these areas and this is how they are exposed. Then if they get the disease they can give it to YOU.
Lyme vaccine protects your pet from the bacteria that cause Lyme disease spread through the deer tick bite. This disease is very common in the area and if your pet is outside and exposed to ticks you need to get this vaccine. In fact when we do a heartworm check we are also checking at the same time for Lyme disease. At our last clinic 25% of all dogs checked had Lyme disease and most were not protected with the Lyme vaccine. So it is very important to get this vaccine. If your pet has not previously been vaccinated against Lyme disease they will need two vaccines 3-4 weeks apart.

It’s Basket Bingo time again!
Mark your calendars for Sunday, April 21, 2013.
This is a huge fundraiser for the rescue!
In order to make this a successful fundraiser, we need a huge amount of help. If we can get all the baskets sponsored, the first person that walks in the door is profit!
I am in need of several things for the bingo:
First, sponsorships for the baskets, if you can’t help maybe you know someone, or a business that can sponsor a basket.
Second, I need Chinese Auction items. If you know of a consultant (Avon, Tupperware, Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, etc.) who is willing to donate, I would be happy to help promote their business at the bingo. You can also contact a local business for a donation.
Third, I need door prizes and fillers for the baskets. Items from dollar stores and re-gifting items you have hanging around the house could fill a basket.

RedRover Responders Volunteer Training Program
RedRover Responders volunteers work in emergency shelters and to educate people about disaster preparedness
The RedRover Responders volunteer corps are the backbone of our efforts to provide lifesaving care and sheltering for animal victims of natural disasters, puppy mills, hoarding, and other cases of cruelty and neglect. Volunteers come from across the United States and Canada and from all walks of life, but they have one thing in common: a commitment to helping animals in need.
Our unique training program combines the ease of self-paced online training with a community-building workshop. Volunteers emerge from the training program feeling connected with the resources they need to be successful RedRover Responders volunteers.
how to sign up
The RedRover Responders registration fee of $50 includes both training steps. After registering for a specific in-person workshop, you receive access to the Self-Paced Online Training. At the workshop, you receive the volunteer handbook and workshop materials. After completion of both the workshop and the Self-Paced Online Training, you receive a t-shirt to wear while volunteering, a photo ID badge and a certificate of completion. At this point, you are added to our RedRover Responders volunteer roster.
Are you ready to be a RedRover Responders volunteer? Please read the volunteer qualifications.
To become a RedRover Responder, follow the following three steps to complete training:
1. Register to attend a workshop.
To secure a seat in a workshop and receive access to the Self-Paced Online Training, register to attend a specific workshop location. Locations are added on a rolling basis. Join our list to be notified of future training.
The following steps can be completed in any order. The order below is strongly recommended.
2. Self-Paced Online Training
What: The Self-Paced Online Training familiarizes you with online resources and tools available to volunteers, enhances personal preparedness, introduces you to the disaster response landscape and guides you through a mock deployment sign-up.
When: The time to complete the Self-Paced Online Training varies by your prior experience level and how much you want to get out of the training, and could take three to eight hours. The training is all online and does not have to be completed all in one sitting. We recommend completing this training prior to attending the in-person workshop.
3. Attend the workshop
What: Facilitated by an experienced RedRover Responders volunteer, the workshop helps you understand what it’s like to deploy with RedRover to a disaster or animal cruelty case. Group work and exercises will guide pre-deployment decision-making and packing, solidify understanding of key Standard Operating Guidelines, and prepare you for the realities of response.
When: Locations are scheduled on a rolling basis. See below to sign up or to be notified of future locations.

Adopt, Foster, Rescue, Volunteer, Donate, Educate, Spread The Word=Save a Life!
Meet Bronx..... :) Many of you may remember his face. His face has been all over facebook for the past two years. A Sunrays Pit Bull Rescue volunteer begged and pleaded until we got this boy out of the shelter. ... He was skin and bones, covered in sores, had kennel cough, and was a mess. His eyes had no life in them. We caved in and pulled him from NYC-AC. He did great, he gained weight, healed, learned to play, he was easily trained, learned so much so quickly. He is stunningly handsome! He did turn out to be a bit dog selective, and have some prey drive but that can be worked with.
He found a home, did great for awhile, but they set him up to fail. He needed to come back to us, and his foster decided she was done. :( He had no place to go. Our friends over at Modified K9 Pit Bull Rescue stepped up for him. We did not want to board him and set him back. He needed a home to thrive in. They were it, and we were grateful!
They too found him a home. He seemed to fit in perfect. Life changes, families change too. He was brought back to MK9. Poor Bronx again is looking for a home..... :(
Please check out his album. He is a stunningly handsome boy, he would do great with a female dog companion of the larger size, no small dogs or cats. He loves children, and is just a big dope. Help spread the word for this beautiful boy. ♥ ♥ ♥

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
FROM SUNRAYS PITBULL RESCUE:
Our community is in dire need of more secure, safe, and weather friendly holding pens for stray dogs! Local shelters are full. When they cannot take in stray dogs community municipalities are holding dogs in outdoor holding pens. Most without AC or heat! :(
If we have no foster homes available we have to turn down dogs. Of course 90% of all strays found and picked up are pit bulls. This holding pen is a small barn type building that we want to transform into a safe indoor holding pen, complete with AC for the summer and heat for the winter. It will have enough space to hold up to four stray dogs until a foster home or another rescue opens up. This will be used for short term care.
We have the lumber that we need, but we are struggling with sturdy fencing and electric.
Please help us, by donating. Donations are 100% tax deductible. This would help our community in many ways, and of course take deserving dogs off of the streets and into a loving environment.

From The Sanctuary at Haafsville:
The wonderful owners of our property want to donate the land to the Sanctuary, but the state wants its share. We can receive property appraised at $400,000, we just need to raise $10,000 for the transfer tax, title search and appraisal fee. The Sanctuary will receive a 4000 % return on your donation! We have until September 28th to raise the money. Can you help? http://www.thesanctuarypa.org/
The Center For Animal Health and Welfare needs wet cat food! Can you help? https://www.facebook.com/#!/CAHW1
Sunrays Pit Bull Rescue needs foster homes!! Yes we know you have other pets, and taking in a stray pit bull can be iffy. BUT we teach you how to do things RIGHT, slow introductions via the 2 week shut down, crates, gates, doors, fences to keep animals separate until we know more about them. We take on the responsibility of food, supplies, vet care, etc. We need you to provide a safe and loving home with our guidance. Our rescue does not use a shelter but a network of loving foster homes so we can know the ins and the outs of each dog in our program. MAKE A CHANGE, HELP US by becoming a foster family for a dog in need! If you cannot adopt or foster, donate. If you cannot donate, please help spread the word by sharing for our dogs and our rescue.
The CAT SHACK needs your help! If you are considering adopting or fostering, please remember to check the cats on the Cat Shack's URGENT waitlist to view cats that urgently need help waiting for available foster space or adopters.
